the texture on the paper you used for the mask looks really interesting and gives the mask a more 3D shape. your composition is good and it shows that the mask is the most important part. i like the movement in the background, it brings my eye right toward the mask and gives the background depth instead of it just being flat. you have good contrast between the mask and the background. nothing really blends into anything else. i like the little splash of red and the playbill sign to give it some color. i interpret this as kind of creepy and secretive. it makes me wonder who's wearing the mask and why. if i could change one thing i would have put some smaller pieces of paper on somewhere just to add some more detail.
Mariah: Your collage shows excellent composition. I love the attention to detail when it came to your mixing of complementary and supplementary color. The negative space and its dark neutral toned blends, brought great contrast to the light top of the waves in the negative space. I loved the way the waves draw the eye right back to the focal point, the lone girl on the beach before this huge tidal wave. It gives the feeling of her strength as a individual, and also her loneliness as an individual. It brings a mood of courage, yet gloomy hardship. I love your framing work and how it completes your piece. If I could recommend any change it would be that you use and even greater mixture of colors within the wave itself to draw more unity between it and the negative space of the sky. Overall, I really like your collage and I think it is quite a successful piece.
Pearl, Your project is hard to criticize and much easier to compliment. The colors you used compliment each other perfectly ranging from the brown and blue denim clothes to the really trippy bright colors surrounding them. The figure of the band members is also detailed enough to tell who is who. Their texture looks cartoon and works very well with the vibrant background. The splatter of grey works in well to break up foreground space also.
I had Josh's collage. I like the distinct contrast between not only colors but shapes also. His concept was also very creative and original. It is also pieced together in an organized way
Steve, this piece has depth. It is interesting to look at because the concept at first isn't completely evident. The mask in the front stands out and was the first thing that caught my eye. The hair well done, and has a nice texture to it. In the picture above the hair stands out against the black, but on the wall it almost gets a little bit lost in all the darkness.. Moving back, Slenderman behind the face. The the thin detail work in the suit is pleasing to the eye. It looks like it's actually there.. good layering techniques. Though the piece has depth, it also feels almost simple in a way. This may be due to the flat tones in the front on the people compared to the texture in the back. There is a real contrast between the people and the forest, which may be a good thing. Back in the forest, the green tones are beautiful. I'm not sure how it was done.. but the overall feel is very earthy. The texture for the trees was an excellent idea. In my opinion it is the strongest point in the piece. The composition was well pieced together; it really harnessed the depth into the picture, as if you can step into the forest yourself. Overall eerie feel, even though I don't understand the concept completely, it's evident that it's not necessary to. The darkness and lurking of the back man makes it feel like a dangerous scene, and it's exciting, as if you want to know what happens next. Like a horror movie.
