I chose Stevens pen and ink architecture picture. I like the shading of the piece with the use of cross hatching. It gave it a very realistic mood. The shading of every brick gives it form and shape. Also the depth of the piece is very good.
Mariah, The brick looks pretty cool. The colors of the entire piece match very well and look realistic. The whole color scheme looks slightly dull, like the picture is sad but like I said it looks realistic. The texture looks cool and faded in the background, I like that. The texture looks a little flat almost cartoon and I like that also. It is pretty back and white as far as the ink goes there isn't any light or medium shading but you used other colors so it makes up for it. Besides the background it looks very clean and organized.
Maddi: Your pen & ink gives off a great feeling. It reminds me of something I would see in the garden of an old victorian home. The lack of color keeps it simple, but you paid great attention to detail . I like the shape and value of the piece. lots of great line-work without shading.
Pearl: Your Pen and Ink Project looks amazing. The symmetrical nature of the focus of the picture, the building, coupled with the detailed asymmetrical shading does well to bring attention to the positive space. The work done manipulating line thickness to depict form is excellent, especially in the foreground. The shapes look very natural and the light neutral tones mixed throughout the foreground brings unity to the negative space and the tones of the positive space and focal point. I love the use of optical mixture in the background to give a very natural, organic look to the sky, and also the way it is used to depict the form and shading of the clouds. Every section of the piece does well to stand alone as well crafted, yet draw the attention of the viewer back to the building focal point of the piece, and for that reason I feel that this you completed this piece very successfully.
Alex, this piece has an extremely warm and beachy feel to it. The glow behind the building really brings it forward and leaves a nice presence of depth. The perspective was focused on well, and the overall 3D fell is really working. Looking at the sides of the building, there is a beautiful value change in the lines bringing out the shadows that are cast on the sides of the home. Dropping in the grayscale watercolor emphasized the dramatic change well. There is a sudden change from the light blue in the sky to yellow, and it really excited the eye. The composition choice is pleasing to the viewer because the main pieces are in focus and not being cut off by edges. The building gives a sense of completion, and is welcoming and friendly like you could just walk straight in the door. My favorite part are the plants out front.. the simplicity of them is just enough to add a pop of color and tone down the large amounts of yellow. The only thing that feels lonely in the piece is the fronts of the buildings and the windows, they are flat and not as exciting as the rest happening in the composition.
I chose Pearl's pen and ink. I love the effect the water color has on the pen and ink. the pen and ink gives it detail and definition but the water color makes it more real and gives it a feeeling of happiness. it creates a mood. It also gices the sky and texture that it wouldnt have otherwise had.I also like the shadows on the hill and how the rocks stand out.The detail in the tower itself is great! BEAUTIFUL!
Katelyn Rowan: I love the way your art started the shading was beautiful. You had a strong concept and the hatching was going well. I know you ran out of time so that kind of stinks that you didn't get to follow through the whole way. Your shape, value and layout I think came through strongly in the long run though I could really see what you were going for.
